Curator’s Statement:
A horse is a horse. Of course! Of course! Except when you see a.mar.illo’s Troybot horse!!! In which case, you should really buy the horse and not think twice about it! The metallic ‘Trojan’ equus won me over long ago with its gorgeous patina and vast amount of detail. I can only imagine the reaction if this had rolled up instead of its wooden sister years ago. However, I’m very happy to see it roll in for a 3 day lay-over with Tilteed.

A.mar.illo’s two previous prints at Tilteed were both winners of our design contest and still available in the catalog. Machine Art is a 3 color print on creme and Expansion is a 1 color print on black.
What was the design process behind this piece?
It belongs to a series of designs “strange huge metal things in space” I had to draw a normal horse first of course and then give it a “skin” made of steel.
Tell us a little bit more about yourself.
I was born and raised in Germany. I’ve worked as a freelance illustrator for more than a decade, which allows me to make a living from my passion for drawing. In 2004, I made a new home in Barcelona, Spain, where I currently reside. I would describe my works as creatures of my mind, born of their own aesthetics. To create my designs I use pen and ink, scanner and Mac.
You have so many amazing designs. Where do you find the bulk of your inspiration?
Thanks! Inspiration can be found in anything. Unfortunately it never comes when you need it most, haha:) But some input always helps: Books, Galleries, Design Websites or just having a walk…
How many t-shirts do you own and what is your favorite piece to wear?
60 printed t-shirts more or less, my favorite tee to wear changes constantly. I really like this one from Sweden for example:

What do you do to kick back and relax?
Bicycle riding, going to the beach or just watching TV are things I´d consider relaxing…

http://www.flyapart.org/ is a European based Art and Illustration collective started in the UK in 2006. As well as being a place for each member to showcase their own work, we also aim to bring you a number of collaborative and themed projects in the near future.
What piece of advice would you give to future designers?
I only can give the same piece of advice I need myself: Remind yourself not to trust too much in your digital skills only, keep drawing, insist in clients paying upfront payments or “kill-fees”, hell, I always forget those things…

Excellent, love the use of the negative space within tge horse, its kinda like my design, using alot of the shirt to come through the design. Well planned and excellent print!

Man this shirt is incredible! That took work and a steady hand. Great colors, too. Your style is awesome, a.mar.illo.
My favorite a.mar.illo design is also Expansion, which I never did buy yet. At first viewing, I was initially repelled by its in-your-face illustration of how mankind has gone berserk on this planet. Then I studied it and learned to appreciate the detail of the design. Congrats on this printing!
