Artist Interview: biotwist

Star Graphic  TILTEED CURATOR: JadenKale

Curator’s Statement:

Sometimes mash-ups of characters just don’t work. But Biotwist brings us the awesomeness that is Sharktopus: The beauty and intelligence of the inquisitive octopus, and the danger and mighty jaws of the great white shark combined into a spectacular species. And beware… Spewing ink across the shirt, he only wants you to think he’s fleeing a predator, when, in fact, he’s coming for you!

What caused you to draw the awesomeness that is “Sharktopus”?

I have a thing for tentacles and realized I could seamlessly mash the two animals up, the ink was the result of brain storming away to make my already awesome drawing work on a shirt.

So what’s behind the name ‘Biotwist’?

I hate the name. I came up with it in high school and I used it when ever a sign up for stuff online. So I’m stuck with it. I always forget my other log ins.

We’ve noticed you’re getting prints with a couple of the shops lately. What, of all your prints, is your favorite and why?

Probably my diver/astronaut shirt (currently at Threadless.com)

What do you find your biggest struggle when designing and how do you feel that makes you different as a designer?

The fact that I can’t draw with out reference anymore. What makes me different? I would say my randomness.

Our random question of the day: Have you ever been cow-tipping or snipe-hunting?

No and nope.

Do you have any links you’d like to tell others to check out?

Well, I have a blog: http://ameturishatbest.blogspot.com/ and I might as well plug my friend’s website: http://www.dodgingtraffic.com/blog/

It’s a blog equivalent to a mens magazine.

Boy, would it suck to have one of these grab your leg and pull you down into the waters of your favorite ocean.

biotwist Wednesday, April 21st

or any ocean really

AdderXYU Wednesday, April 21st

I think my least favorite ocean would be improved by the drowning, biting death bestowed on me by such a freaking awesome mutant, actually.

My last thought would be “holy crap, I’m being killed by something totally sweet!”

Coming soon to a cable channel near you. I plan on wearing this to the premiere…on my couch.

Just to be clear, is the ink cloud going to print to the bottom of the shirt as shown in the mock-up? Not really a make or break for me, just thought I’d ask in case it might be for anyone else.

Patrick Wednesday, April 21st

That’s awesome. Sharktopus, the movie.

The ink cloud will print to the bottom of the shirt, so there might be slight inconsistencies over the bottom seems.

The only other thing that would need to be pointed out is that since the designs goes to the bottom, on the larger sizes (Men’s Large, XL, 2XL) the design will sit a bit lower than what’s shown in the mock.
