Artist Interview: Qim

The beasts around the keyhole of this design had me thinking this scene from Ghostbusters starting day one:

Dana Barrett: Are you the Keymaster?
Dr. Peter Venkman: Not that I know of.
[She slams the door in his face. Venkman knocks again]
Dana Barrett: Are you the Keymaster?
Dr. Peter Venkman: Yes. Actually, I’m a friend of his, he asked me to meet him here…

Okay, now I feel old… and have an odd desire to devour Stay-Puft marshmallows…

Welcome to Tilteed, Qim! Please tell the Tilteers what a typical day is like for you.

Thanks for the welcome, Jaden! =) First thing I do in the morning: check my emails. Then get myself ready for breakfast and next to hanger to fly. If I’m scheduled to fly in the evening, I’ll spend some time in the morning to sketch some ideas on paper then on my tablet. Guess that’s a typical day for me.

There’s so much happening in the detail around the sides of the keyhole, it’s hard to believe this is such a limited color piece. What inspired you to create this design?

Well, I always get this weird imagination every time I open the door. It’s like I’m hoping something different should appear behind it. And every thing comes with a price. That’s why I created the guardians around it.

I’ve noticed a reoccurring theme with some of your designs. What is the significance of the keyhole/lock for you?

Every door has a key and it could lead you anywhere. That should be where your imagination brings you. That should explain.=)

A bit of randomness: Which is better and why: kiwi the bird, or kiwi the fruit?

erm… kiwi the fruit. You can eat the fruit and you can use the seed to grow more kiwi. =D

Do you listen to music or keep background noise on, like TV, while you create?

I prefer music rather than just random background noise. It makes you feel free to create and imagine.
