THE GIFT

Curator’s Statement:
Our first curated t-shirt design is one that impressed me with the gentle power of the imagery. For some, it could be inspirational, while others might be comforted. It might remind one of a close friend, or a lover. It’ll probably be many things to many people, but one thing is certain: this piece is a subtle, whimsical charmer.

What was the inspiration behind “The Gift”?
The inspiration came from a theme of “End Hunger, Create Hope.” I wanted to symbolize how people step up and help those in need. This is achieved by showing the awesome guy in the prosperous land sending a “gift” of hope and help to the poor guy in the desolate wasteland, in hopes he would use it to travel to the prosperous land.

Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I’m a crazy, stressed out, OCD artist that loves all things crafting and artsy. I have a devoted hubby that supports me in all I do, and some crazy animals to remind me to chill out every once in a while.
You’re a graphic designer by trade: how do you balance your day job and your personal work?
Red Bull. Lots and lots of Red Bull. I’m fairly decent at time management, too, when I don’t procrastinate. (Don’t all artists procrastinate??) Did I mention Red Bull?

What would be your dream project?
I’d have to say getting the chance to design a fun-loving couple’s wedding invitation—and they tell me they’ll spend whatever it costs as long as it looks cool. Unlimited budget for the win! I really love to create that first impression of somebody’s big day to their guests through invitations.

Huge heart balloons are awesome, but what would be the coolest gift someone could give you?
That’s a tough one. I’m not big on getting gifts, but I’d have to say a Vibraphone. I miss playing music, and the best gifts are something you’d love to have, but would probably never spend the money on it since it’s a want, not a need.

Any links you’d like to share with us?
Help the Red Cross (http://www.redcross.org/). Cause, you know, they totally represent what this shirt is all about; going and helping people to better lives.
Any final thoughts you’d like to share?
I hope this design gives you warm and fuzzies, and reminds you to help others in need. And it could be a rockin’ Valentine’s Day gift for your sweetie.
