Curator’s Statement:

With the way my schedule’s been this summer, I could certainly use some time to cool my jets. Good thing I talked to German designer, Shortriver, because she decided to create a shirt that I’ll happily wear on those days where I need to just slow down. S is for Slow includes the most endearing sloth I’ve ever seen and the feel of it is similar to the scene from a page in an Alphabet book. The whole feel takes me back to an earlier time in my life when life was simple, and far more relaxing. That makes it a winner for me! All in all, this tee is fun and perfect for both kids and adults… a must for anyone’s wardrobe!

Tell us a little about your piece today. Why a sloth for S is for Slow?

Because sloths are great! I watched a YouTube video recently full of sloths and kinda fell in love. They hang around all day, sleep and occasionally eat and all of that very slow - perfect! From time to time, I’d like to slow down like that too.

Walk us through a lazy day with Shortriver.

I guess my only lazy days are Sundays when I don’t have to work or get any important stuff done. I sleep in and get up around noon and I really like to go out for breakfast with friends. I spend the afternoon drawing and designing and most of the evening as well. I think that’s where I can relax best. Or spending the evening on the phone with my best friend.

What do you feel most inspires you to create such wonderful designs?

Ah, thanks for the compliment! smile I get most of my inspiration out of daily life or in the most unusual situations, like suddenly under the shower. Then I carry them around in my head or sketchbook for a while and refine them until I start to draw the final picture.

Anything big coming up for you in the next few months?

To be honest: I don’t know yet. I have so many ideas and so little time and always want to do something different the moment in pops into my head. I started with porcelain painting recently and try to get my illustrations on plates and such. Let’s see where this idea is heading and what comes into my head next.

If you could have any slow animal as a pet, what would you choose?

A baby sloth! :D

Any links you’d like to tell others to check out?

My blog and portfolio on http://shortriver.de/blog which will be written in English as well from now on, I promise.

Finally, just to appease my curiosity: Wiener Schnitzel or Bratwurst?

Haha, both is fine as long as it’s organic. It’s barbecue-time, so I’ll take the Bratwurst.

I’m excited to have hooked up with Shortriver and subsequently printing her. She’s one of the first artists that I met/discovered purely because of Twitter. Proof that social media works. But not just that, but she’s a great person to just talk with. We’ve shot some emails and DM’s back and forth regarding possible prints and tees in general, and she’s really quite interesting smile

I know a few things about sloths. They’re pretty cool critters. I’ve got to say that this looks like the happiest sloth I’ve ever seen. Thanks for finding this one JadenKale. Congrats on this fine design, shortriver. Tilteed continues to excel!
