PINKERTON
Artist Interview: cmdixon2
TILTEED CURATOR: Adderxyu

TILTEED: Chris Dixon
Hey Chris! Welcome to Tilteed. Please introduce yourself to the class.
I am 29 years old. I live in Indiana with my wife and 2 kids and work as a graphic/web designer at a small web marketing firm.

Pinkerton is a seriously awesome graphic tee, but what does it all mean?
It was originally done with “Madness” in mind and it portrays a businessman going through his life as a drone despite the dangers and pitfalls around him. Mindless, oblivious and ruled by the orders he’s given.

When you’re stressed out like this guy, what is the ultimate way to relax?
I’ve become a big fan of ping pong since we got a table at work. And I watch more TV than I care to admit. Especially “It’s Always Sunny In Philidelphia” which I regularly reference in everyday conversations. “AYOOOOHHHH!” ...sorry.
Walking a tightrope is pretty impressive. What is your favorite circus act?
I have a soft spot for juggling since I know how to, but I actually think that high-wire acts are amazing.

What are some influences your art has that we might not expect, and what about them strikes you most?
That’s a tough one. I’m really influenced by anything and everything. I try not to limit myself to any specific areas of art as far as influence goes. Even my 5-year-old daughter’s pictures influence me. She’s amazing.

Where can fans keep track of you?
I have a little website that I put together after leaving my old host. Unfortunately I tend to neglect it. I hope to find time soon to redo it the right way.
Any final words?
I just want to send a big “thank you” to the Tilteed team for taking on Pinkerton. I’m sure you’ll do a great job with it.

Jestik Wednesday, July 7th
friggin’ awesome!
this broke my heart in the Madness derby, as well as the double-take derby. I was absolutely thrilled to get Adder’s tweet about this being posted, I couldn’t wait to get home to see it!
This will be the first Tilteed shirt that I’m in for TWO!
:D
(see, I’m very happy!)

Flip Giveaway #3!
We’re holding the next drawing right here in the comments of our current tee by Chris Dixon.
Pinkerton shares a name with an album by Weezer. In a comment, tell us what song name or song you think needs to be translated into a t-shirt.
Drawing will be held tomorrow, the 8th, at 6PM PST. Tell your friends!
matt2kool Wednesday, July 7th
I could do this forever!
first song that comes to mind…“Casual Discussion in a Dome Between Two Temples” by Algernon Cadwallader
dunz0 Wednesday, July 7th
To start things off, I’d like to see “Neonland” by Detektivbyran translated into a tee. Lots of neon colors, I imagine!
bananbra Wednesday, July 7th
Now that’s a fun question! I’m thinking something by The Magnetic Fields…
“Papa was a Rodeo”, perhaps adding the following lyric “mama was a rock’n'roll band”.
If I had any artistic qualities whatsoever I would absolutely give that one a try!
dunz0 Wednesday, July 7th
Oh, and maybe Justin Bieber’s “Baby”.... it might have babies. Lots of them.
bananbra Wednesday, July 7th
Dunz0, you like Detektivbyrån? That’s awesome, I had no idea people knew about them outside Scandinavia.
matt2kool Wednesday, July 7th
Subterranean Homesick Alien - Radiohead
bananbra Wednesday, July 7th
This is so much fun! I can think of so many that would make great t-shirt-art.
Great choice, Matt! Algernon Cadwallader is so good.
mrwednesday Wednesday, July 7th
Unless there’s a song hiding out there I don’t know about, Pinkerton was just an album by Weezer.
I will forgive this and post something later.
Also, not to distract from Chris’ work, this shirt is really amazing. I’m surprised it didn’t win that other contest and it’s awesome to see it printed here. I’ll have to see if I have the funds to make a purchase.
Congrats either way and much deserved!
pileup Wednesday, July 7th

Dunz0:
I love their “Wermland” record, it’s like a fun mix of Yann Tiersen and Harry Potter music.
Matt:
What can I say - I’m a big music geek. I don’t know much about them but I love “Some Kind of Cadwallader”. My friend has it on vinyl and it’s definitely on my to-buy-list as well.

Awesome use of the the shirt color in the design. I wish I had a fraction of talent that artists here at Tilteed have. For some reason the name keeps taking me back to old western movies and the Pinkerton detectives. Probably because I just watched 3:10 to Yuma this past weekend.
ovenrude Wednesday, July 7th

eggwolio Thursday, July 8th
This started out as a hard thing for me to think of. Then a bunch of ideas came to mind:
I’m a bluebird from follow that bird is pretty much the only song in the world which can make someone cry faster and harder than the sarah mclalala spca commercial. Would be a great shirt.
Hideaway Folk Family by TMBG would also be great, but I kinda already attributed it to a shirt I won from Jaden at another site. “Sadly the cross-eyed bear”
Your Ex-Lover is Dead by Stars would make a phenomenal tee.
And finally, several picks from Bishop Allen:
The News From Your Bed - great narrative to this song
Flight 180 - so much imagery to depict
Click Click Click (Click) (the 4th one is often debated) - more great imagery
The Chinatown Bus - the original brooding one, not the upbeat gem it turned into on The Broken String
Butterfly Nets
The Envy of the Bees.
It’s really hard to listen to Bishop Allen and get no visualizations.
Also, I really dig all of Chris’s tees shown here. This is my third Limited shirt acquisition in a row! (Though I won the first)
SonatinaGena Thursday, July 8th
I can see “Nights in White Satin” by The Moody Blues as a beautiful tee, or even an art print.
... man. Now I really want it to happen.
On a side note: Yes! I can finally get Pinkerton now!
melonee Thursday, July 8th
Let’s go with “Geek Stink Breath”. I picture monsters. People love monsters ... and zombies. There’s also the vampire craze, with all that blood consumption I’m sure a tic -tac is in order!
P/s superb tee!
theJCW Thursday, July 8th

What an amazing design! I am digging all of Mr. Dixon’s work on this page and I’ll have to check out his website as well. What a great talent.
Looks like I’m too late for the contest? I was going to suggest “Phantom Limb” by The Shins.
Great tee pick, Mr. Adder.
