Curator’s Statement:

What’s not to love about this character by Maxime Archambault? He’s putting smiles on people’s faces by painting rainbows for all to see. Instead of tagging the streets, he’s filling up the sky with all kinds of colorful goodness. This is definitely a must-have design for those who want a little piece of happiness in their closet!

Welcome to Tilteed, Maxime! Can you start us off by telling us a little bit about yourself?

I like design, hip-hop and electronic music, and good food. I need to spend less time in front of my computer and do some physical activities. I have just passed the age of 30, and it was a wonderful year, and the next year will be better. I will travel for a year with my girlfriend and my laptop to San Francisco, Beijing, and maybe other destinations. We’ll figure it out as we go. I hope to create good designs during that time and create good contacts and professional relationships.

How did you come up with the idea for “Paint a Rainbow”?

This design has changed a lot over time. I first created the character. Later, I added a rainbow and did a composition for a t-shirt. I ended up changing the composition, changing the rainbow, and adding tattoos to the character. All those steps have taken three years since the creation of the character to this print. Who knows, maybe this creation is not finished.

When and how did you get your start in t-shirt design?

I started when I was a teenager and made some cheap and unique prints for my friend with iron-on transfers. I later worked for a private label clothing company and made commercial designs 40 hours a week. I also did my personal designs in my free time. Now, I am a freelance illustrator, making nice graphics for everybody who likes my style!

Do you only create digital art or do you work on other mediums as well?

I create on all kind of mediums, but t-shirt design is my favorite. I do a lot of illustrations on the computer and on canvas, and I enjoy doing street art from time to time. I have started doing photography two years ago and have taken some Sunday classes. I really enjoy it. I love to learn and try out new mediums.

I love the color combination on this tee, and I’m also a fan of the munny. It makes me want to create one for Tilteed.
