LION ABOUT YOUR AGE
Artist Interview: DCAY
TILTEED CURATOR: Adderxyu

TILTEED: DCAY
Welcome back! It’s been quite a while since we’ve seen you here: what have you been up to?
Thanks for having me back! I am always trying to keep busy and make new art. Pretty much still cranking out tees for the apparel & music industries.
With the colors and themes of this piece, it feels a lot different from some of your other work. Was this intentional? How did the piece come about?
It was pretty intentional. I am always trying to step outside of my style and comfort zone when given the chance, and in a way I guess this is perhaps a bit of both. I had originally drawn the Lion on it’s own a long time ago. At some point I decided that I wanted to add on to the illustration and make it something playful and fun, and this was pretty much the end result.
This lion has some huge personality. Tell us a little about what you think he might be like if he was real.
In the jungle, the mighty jungle, this lion does not sleep much at night. He’s too busy planning the next kegger at Pride Rock. If this dude was real, you would want to party with him.

If you weren’t an artist, what would your ideal job be and why?
Eccentric Billionaire.
I’m always interested in finding out what other forms of art artists love. What are some CDs and books you’ve come across lately that you’ve fallen in love with?
I am a big music geek. Not musically talented myself unfortunately, but good tunes make my world go round. Recent bands I have been into as of late are Torche, Deftones, P.O.S. and I’m finally understanding why people dig Arcade Fire so much… it took me awhile.

What does a guy with a pseudonym like DCAY do when he needs some time to relax and recharge?
Getting out of the house is probably the biggest thing on my “To-Do” list. I have a bit of difficulty detaching from my computer these days, but when I do I enjoy spending time with my dogs, going on a stroll through the park, and hitting up as many garage sales and flea markets in my field of vision.

Any final words?
Heck yea! I just printed some new DCAY shirts available in my web store: (http://www.dcay.bigcartel.com)
My little tribute to the things I love. If you don’t get any of the pop-culture references on them, shoot me a message and I’ll get your learn on! The tees are printed on American Apparel and everything is very limited, so if you see something you like don’t put it off until after Christmas!

Sweet Child O’ Mine is probably one of my five fave catalog tees, so I was stoked when DCAY wanted to work with me on a limited. Glad we could finally make this design a reality!

Wonderful work.

Pixie: “I Wrestled a Bear Once” is, I believe, a band (I know nothing of their music thusfar, but there you have it). I’d imagine that if the tee is available still, it’d be through their personal merch store.
But you should probably pick up the Lion first

Thank you very much, everyone! Glad you guys are diggin’ this hipster kitty.
Pixie: Adder is correct, it’s a band shirt, and I just checked their online store and am afraid they are all sold out. It’s a much older design of mine, glad you enjoy it
