JACKALOPE
Artist Interview: Recycledwax
TILTEED CURATOR: JadenKale
Curator’s Statement:
The elusive jackalope has trekked from Wall Drug in South Dakota all the way to Oregon in order to grace the silver tee we’re offering you! Or… at least that’s what he’d have you believe. Recycled Wax could have just drawn this while pulling an all-nighter at the university. Personally, I’m stickin’ with the Wall Drug angle. He’s massive, and you can ride him. I’m not about to mess with hasenpfeffer that big!

Max’s previous Tilteed print is part of the Tilteed catalog - Singing in the Rain
What was the inspiration behind this piece?
This piece is inspired by one of my graphic design teachers. He asked me to experiment more with my illustration. This one is my first experiment with halftone.
Got any new exciting projects in the works?
Yes! My first two children’s books just got published and hit the book stores! It’s a big project that took me two years to complete. So it’s pretty exciting! You can learn more about the series on the website http://www.lesdragouilles.com.

When you are in the zone, artistically speaking, do you tend to lose track of time or forget to eat?
Oh yeah! Being a freelancer who works at home has it’s negative side. Sometimes I don’t see time pass and suddenly I realize it’s dark out and all my lights are still off.
How did you get into art?
I’ve been drawing since I was a kid, so when I finished school, I was drawn to it. I studied multimedia in college, and after, graphic design in university. They both helped me in making better digital art.

What advice do you have to offer other aspiring artists?
Draw each day. It doesn’t have to be perfect each time. The more you draw, the better you get! Two years ago, I gave myself a goal of one illustration per week. And I’m still doing it! Not all of them are masterpieces, but it’s giving me more time to experiment and try different things. And drawing a lot helps improve your personal style.

Jackalope Fact: Milk from a female Jackalope has many medical applications. It can cure baldness as well as help with bunions.
fuzzylogic Saturday, May 29th
I’ve heard the milk helps with Butt Onions too!
Nicely done! I haven’t seen anything printed by you in a while. Am I missing something?

My Last purchase was Black Cat for Dessert on some *other* site. Funny. I was wearing that today and didn’t remember till I just took it off to go to bed.

“There was this antlered rabbit on the wall
With spiked horns and ears a foot tall.
The bartender told me it was a Colorado jackalope.
I was taken again” Jerry Jeff Walker
Not as believable as the stuffed specimen on my office wall but I will treasure this rendition nonetheless. Nice work, Recycled WAX.
@Patrick: how do you get the critter to stand still to milk it?
@Fuzzylogic: I’m curious but do I really want to know what a Butt Onion is?
Patrick Saturday, May 29th
@twilshire - I’m sure that’s a closely guarded secret of Jackalope wranglers.

Methinks my boss knows far too much about jackalopes and wrote the wiki page on them
fuzzylogic Sunday, May 30th
@twilshire: People probably don’t want to know!
But they do want to know when the next great piece of art coming out by Recycled Wax is!
Slevin Sunday, May 30th
goodness. recycledwax is one of my favorite artist here. Singing in the rain is awesome and now this is his first limited. Congrats recycled. Hope I will be able to order this in time before it is gone.

Cool tee, as usual. The only critique I have is that the two random triangles don’t belong. Not a major deal, they just don’t strike with me.
JadenKale Sunday, May 30th
The two triangles totally belong! They help as an accent color and it breaks up the block of grey on grey.
Patrick Sunday, May 30th
@jmayle How dare you speak of the mystical triangles like that! Everybody knows that randomly floating triangles are where Jackalopes derive their power from, duh!
twilshire Sunday, May 30th
But….the randomly floating mystical triangles must only be of the color green. DO NOT eat the red ones, people! I had an awful experience outside of Taos. If it weren’t for the aid of a passing jackalope (of the rare Samaritan species), I’d be a’ goner.
Jaden’s right (again). They totally belong.

I think what I love about this tee is that we could literally run it in a different colour combo every day for a month and every one would look hot.

Awesome.

This is great, the shirt was a long time waiting to see the light of day, and here it it! -I am originally from the Great West and when I worked in stores that had stuffed “jackalopes” you wouldn’t believe how many people asked me where they could see a live one…..
The best Wax there is, is recycled! nice work on the print-
This guys work has been ripped off and copied so many times…people should defiantly support his actual work and pick up one of these bad boys!
