Artist Interview: badbasilisk

Curator’s Statement:

The Greeks called him both ‘the great messenger of the gods” and “the guide to the Underworld.” Hermes, our winged god from head to foot, makes a special 72 hour stop at Tilteed. Badbasilisk’s interpretation is such a unique take, I felt compelled to get this printed one way or another. It’s the charm of Hermes the Pilot and the vast amount of detail, from the clouds and wing to the flapping of the scarf in the wind, that practically has me soaring along behind the tongue with him. If your mind has been in the clouds, you should definitely pick up this t-shirt.

What were you thinking when you created this gem?

I don’t have a really big background in design. I read a lot and I like mythology - especially Greek - Hermes is a cool character and he has winged boots, you know. I thought it would be nice to place him in a big winged boot like a airplane and make him look like an oldtime pilot - that’s all

Haha - all basilisks are bad My nickname “badbasilisk” is due to my affection for
mythology and old stories.

What do you consider your greatest achievement?

The birth of my son, Erik.

Do you have any favorite artists you stalk?

I like a lot of artists but my favorites are all dead Here are some of my favorites: Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele, Alfred Kubin, Koloman Moser, and Aubrey Beardsley.
