Artist Interview: tobefonseca

Curator’s Statement:

The last time that I made a paper airplane was probably during middle school. I learned how to make many different kinds, and each of the planes had its pros and cons. Some looked cooler than others and some flew further than others, but none of them were ever in the major leagues of paper planes, if you know what I mean. Although I’m no professional when it comes to folding paper planes, I know a great one when I see one. When a bird would rather take a ride in your paper plane than fly to its destination, that’s when you know that it’s extraordinary!

Tell us a little bit more about “Flying Away.” Where did the idea for this piece come from?

Actually when I got this idea I was thinking of doing something with a paper plane…Well, starting from that, the idea came naturally and Flying Away was born :D

Can you give us a little summary of who you are?

Hmm… Hi! :D I’m Tobe Fonseca, illustrator from a little city in Brazil. I’m 23 and I love what I do for a living!

Where do you find inspiration for new designs?

It depends… Actually ‘‘creative blanks’’ are common on my day-by-day. I always see lots of references on sites like ffffound and always on all t-shirts sites too. Compe-tee-tion is a good choice to keep informed and inspired by new trends from t-shirts.

What tools do you use to create your artwork?

I can’t do my work without a PC, but some things I draw and I use some different stuff like watercolors or different pencils. I like to try new things.

If you could be any animal for one day, what would you be and why?

A bear for sure! I’d love to be eating sashimi for free all day! :D
