Curator’s Statement:

I grew up watching tons of cartoons, many of which involved all sorts of cat and mouse shenanigans. From Tom and Jerry to Itchy and Scratchy, the feud between felines and rodents is one that we all know very well. What’s interesting about these cartoons is that I never once empathized with the cats. This design by walmazan is throwing me off because I actually feel bad for the unsuspecting kitty!

How did you come up with the idea for “El Plan”?

I have always liked stories about revenge, and I love the idea that these little rodents have devised an evil master plan to get rid of their nemesis, the cat.

Can you tell us a little bit more about yourself?

I’m from Mexico and I love enchiladas. I really enjoy spicy food! I am a graphic designer with a little design studio in Washington, DC, and I’m also a partner in a licensing company in Mexico in which I create characters inspired by the Lucha Libre (http://www.luchones.com).

What is your favorite thing to draw?

Food with faces. Maybe something is wrong with me, but I really enjoy giving life to kitchen stuff!

How did you get into designing and when did you know that you wanted to make a career out of it?

I think I’ve liked drawing ever since I was a little kid. I studied graphic design in college and ever since I can remember I have worked in things related to graphic and web design. In my free time I like drawing illustrations.

If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?

I would like to be able to make the days longer! That way I could have a few extra hours in which to draw…and also maybe a super stomach to be able to eat the spiciest food in the land!
