Artist Interview: D-Roy

Curator’s Statement:

In the heat of the summer, sometimes I wish for a bit of rain to cool things down. This might be a bit overkill. Still, when it gets super hot this month, you’ll be happy you picked up this cool, unsung gem of a tee.

Hey, Dustin. Welcome to Tilteed. Tell us a little bit about yourself and your art.

I am a graduate of Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. I currently reside there. I have been helping a friend of mine set up and run a bar close to campus. I have a few murals in the bar that I have painted, they should be posted somewhere within this interview.

Unlike most designers we’ve seen here, you’re not a regular around the tee design circuit. What inspired you to try this design in that medium?

I have been drawing on my own plain white tees for awhile. I’ve noticed my friends saying “oh that’s neat I would wear that”, so I tried my luck by submitting this design which is the second one I have ever tried to submit and now it is really happening I am getting printed. I love Tilteed. I am so grateful.

What, in your opinion, is the best way to spend a rainy day like this one?

A rainy day like this one? Uh…I would stay inside, I’m not a big fan of drowning. But seriously I would break out the ol rainy day box and do the whole arts and crafts thing.

Tell us a little bit about your own personal favorite shirt.

Well my favorite shirt is actually a retro looking white, blue, and red-orange polo that has a small graphic of a sun with the word Florida in it. It was a hand me down from my grandpa, who is my idol.

Rock Opera, Indie Film, or Video Game: Which would you be most excited to create, and what would it be about?

It would have to be both a indie movie and a video game that goes with it. It would be about zombie dinosaurs of course.

Is there anywhere we can get to see more of your work (websites/flickr/etc)?

Unfortunately I don’t have any of my work up yet. But a good friend of mine, Evan, took some great photos of some of my food sculptures that I did in the spring. Here’s the link:

Ironically enough, Effluvium Puppenhaus Caterwaul was the name of my grandfather.

I love this tee.

God, what I wouldn’t give to drown the sun right now 90 and humid is so uncomfortable! But I’m glad this shirt will be quite the opposite! :D

I like this design, D-Roy. I do. But, living in the Pacific Northwest, I LOVE the sun and the HOT months that we can get here. I wait six months for summer! Patrick knows what I’m writing about.
Sorry, I have to pass on this one.

This shirt is amazing, the choices of designs on this site are always incredible.

Much like twilshire, really like the style but not the message.

If you’re lucky enough to live in an air-conditioned dome, or northern Canada, you still have about 14 hours to buy this for your sweatier friends!

I’m curious as to the alternate message lonelypond sees in this.

I feel bad about what I wrote earlier. I love this design! I didn’t mean to imply that the design has a negative or unappealing message. I was just referring to all the rain we get in the PNW. And I’m sorry that I used Paticks’a name. He just knows that I live near him in soggy Portland. I didn’t mean to infer that he shares my distaste for the rain. Sometimes I just share too much. I am really sorry. Please forgive me.
