Artist Interview: jublin

Curator’s Statement:

It’s a dog eat dog world out there… or should I say, it’s a shark eat anchovy world? Well, it’s no different for the world of t-shirts. Luckily, we snagged Jublin with our tee hook to fish out a winner! He comes back to Tilteed one year later, only this time, to hang out with us for a 3 day stint while we print Corporate Luncheon. I hear the ominous tones of shark-infested waters as Tilteed dangles this oceanic bait out for Tilteers everywhere. Would you mind giving us some insight into how this design came about?

Well I happen to be a huge fan of the Discovery Channel’s “Shark Week” and felt obligated to design something in celebration of the fantastic week-long holiday.

Stop or My Whale Will Shoot has been at Tilteed for almost a year. How does it feel to come back now as part of our Limited line?

It feels great. I’ve seen a lot of excellent prints come from you guys in the past year and it’s nice to be a part of that.

I found this on a special edition Lost DVD that I bought from Wal Mart. It was the only copy probably. It features Jack, Locke, and a white rabbit.

Last time we interviewed you, we asked “What are you going to be doing in 5 years?” Well, it’s one year down. So what big things happened for you this last year?

I’ve done quite a bit of traveling around the world and have really enjoyed every minute of it. I hope to continue my travels and keep up with my artwork for as long as I can.

Probably one of the few things t-shirt fans haven’t seen is your Alphabet Vectors book, created for your AIGA portfolio review. I personally love the marriage of a kid-like alphabet book and some of your best and creative designs. Have you ever considered putting together a similar book to sell to the masses?

I had a lot of fun putting that book together and would love to work on more books and coloring pages for kids, but the only problem is finding the free time to do so. That always seems to be the case, doesn’t it?

Jublin, you always seem to be doing one sort of project or another to help friends and organizations. What special works do you have going on right now?

Actually at the moment, my motives are a bit more selfish. I’m creating an oversized paper-mache cat for no other reason than to say I own an oversized paper-mache cat.
