Welcome to Tilteed. I’m your host, AdderXYU. Please tell the studio audience a little bit about yourself!
My name is Tasha, my husband’s name is Joe and we have a cat named Reef. Together we travel the east coast in a 1973 Airstream looking for nice beach spots, things that I want to draw and diving jobs.
Tell us about your art. What would you say defines your style? Who inspires you?
I’m inspired by nature. I like to draw just about everything in it, and along the way end up making personalities and stories to go with them.

I know many people have really connected with the meaning behind this piece while waiting for it to print somewhere. Mind telling us about that inspiration?
It’s based on a quote by Elizabeth Bowen that I first heard when I was really young. At the time I thought it was so sweet because she seemed to be saying that where ever we go, we’re never alone because we take our friends with us. I had it scribbled down in a little notebook I carried around for years. More recently, I took the notebook out again and realized she probably wasn’t saying anything like that, but was saying something more along the lines of out of sight, out of mind. I was impressed with how much more positive (although wrong!) my childish interpretation of the quote was and I’d still rather think of it that way.

What would you cite among your own personal pieces as a favorite? What tee would you cite of someone elses?
That’s so hard because I’m attached to all of them! Forsaking all Others that’s at DBH was special because I put a lot of time into it. And I like my little whale drawings and all the shirts I’ve done based on them. Alice’s Sewing Basket by Jillian Nickell is one of my favorite’s of someone else’s. All her stuff is awesome.
Besides t-shirting, what other art do you do in your life? Do you have a full time job in art, and if so, how do your approaches differ between work and tee design?
The thing I love most about t-shirting, is that it gets rid of that line between personal and job art. I’ve always loved to draw, but after high school I felt like I couldn’t really have a job doing that, so I went into graphic design. Seemed cool at the time, but it turns out I don’t care about logos and page layouts even a little bit and my clients always wanted things in their styles, not mine. T-shirting is great because it’s basically gives my sketchbook life. A lot of my designs are sketches that I did just for the fun of it and later on turned into shirts. Seeing them become something makes me really happy.

Do you have any exciting projects going on, or links you wish to share?
I’m getting a puppy soon and I’m really excited about that.
Final words, thoughts, etc?
I’m just happy to see this design make it on to cotton at last. Thanks to everyone at Tilteed and to everyone who supported it and waited patiently for it.

Do you have a best friend who’d love this tee? Post about ‘em here, and we’ll pick a winner to get a copy for them. Or for yourself. We really have no way of judging.

I’ve known my friend Jem since we were about 3 yrs old. We hardly see each other now, maybe once every 4 yrs. But every time we meet up it’s as if nothing at all has changed, we can talk for ages about anything. No absent friends indeed.

My husband Kurt is my best friend. Not sure if this is his style, but it would make him smile to see me wearing it.

Wow. It likes what I say so much it posts it 4 times. I’m flattered.

Lol - I was going to edit that and take those out. But I like what you said as well and think it needs to be said 4 times.

I’m my best friend since no one else came with me to Michigan (I don’t blame them). I’ve been waiting patiently through the first derby, the double take, crowd failing, and now I am happy to say that my closet will no longer be “absent” this shirt.
Keep up the awesome work, jewelwing!

I’ve always liked this one but don’t think I could pull it off. May have to get one for the wife (aka best friend).

My best-friend, almost brother, Mike would love this tee because teal and purple is one of his favorite color combos, if not his very favorite, and this design showcases them in such a brilliant gradient!! I often find doodles that he had drawn that resemble the little characters in this piece, so I’m sure he’d grow mighty fond of them as well. Mike would probably do a backflip into his makeshift couch-bed if I told him that he one a Tilteed tee.

the person i thought was my best friend turned out to be an illusion. she’s moved on, quick and without mercy. ten months of my life gone. i’ve been told i’ll find better in college.
most college students wear shirts!

my friend always says my shirts r super random and likes the designs. i bought him the beaknik tee, but this is 1 is crazy cartoony and even more awesome

What a wonderful interpretation of the quote by Elizabeth Bowen. Such a pleasant design with all of the smiling faces; not a frown in the bunch. Great color choices. I know someone who deserves to wear this; someone who’s been through too much suffering but continues to smile through it all, day after day. Both the quote and the shirt are perfect for her.

My Friend is in the Army, and was just deployed to Iraq. The shirt kind of reminds me of all of us (his friends and family) seeing him off hoping for the best. So if you are really having a contest, that is my reason for wanting a shirt to give to him

Awesome, thanks everybody for the comments! Rather than try to pick a favorite, I let the Random Number generator generate a random number: 19
So, tjbeyerl - we’ll be sending you an email
