Usually we start these interviews off with a simple one: ‘Tell us a little bit more about this design.’ But instead, I’d like to start with “What planet are you originally from and could you please tell us a little bit more about this design.”

Haha I am from planet Earth actually. This image originally started from playing around with the idea of a killer whale pun. Then I was thinking about blue whales and “boys in blue” cops. Then things got weird and the pun idea got out of control and turned into a bizarre human-whale hybrid buddy cop action flick storyline illustration. You just gotta roll with it sometimes.

I heard this interview with the writer of the Showtime show ‘Weeds’ where she said she pitched the show to Showtime execs in 5 words: Widowed suburban pot dealing mother.

Can you give us Jublin in 5 words:

To be honest, “widowed suburban pot dealing mother” just about perfectly describes me as well.

You’ve enjoyed some pretty nice wins on a variety of sites. And you were just in the top 20 in the DBH 10K - congrats! Compare that finish in the 10K with your first print - still as exciting?

It’s most definitely just as exciting! It’s always an amazing feeling when someone enjoys your artwork enough to print it on a shirt and sell it to others. It’s very flattering and encourages me to keep at it and get better. Just like Rocky in the Rocky movies.

What are you going to be doing in 5 years?

In 5 years? Whoa. I barely know what I’ll be doing in 5 minutes. I’d like to think I’ll either be swimming in a room full of gold coins and cash (a la Scrooge McDuck) or traveling a bit more and working on fun projects that still excite me.
