Welcome back, April! Congrats on the contest win! Tell us some more about your relationships with these sea monsters in this piece.

Thanks! The events in the The Odyssey really stuck with me after reading it, and out of all of them, none caused as much awe as the part when the characters had to go between Scylla and Charybdis. To me, that's an unforgettable moment in literature.  So this piece started with my remembrance of them. While drawing this, I bonded with Scylla the most. I'm scared to know what that means, ha ha. I went through three versions of her before finally being content with her appearance. Charybdis was challenging because I had to put her in the sky for the composition to work. That meant she needed to be abstracted, so instead of swirls of liquid, she evolved into a massive amount of hair. I personally know what that's like. Even though Hydra and Leviathan are also literary, I'm sort of embarrassed to say I remember them mostly from my Final Fantasy video game days.

We've learned that there's much more to the dog and food theme lots of our fans saw in last year's piece, Slushie. Dogs. Food. Explain.

Inadvertently, "Slushie" and my other early dog design, "I'm, Alas, a Salami," became the inspiration for an acrylic painting series I call "The Art of Dogs and Food." I think it came about subconsciously because of the simple facts that I love dogs and I love food. I was trying to figure out a way for me to branch out of just doing tshirt art, but I needed a focus. It occurred to me that I could continue the dogs by doing something food (or drink) related for each breed. It opened up an opportunity that could continue and grow. Throughout the months of January and February this year, I made the first eight paintings of the series. This past Saturday, they made their debut at a local art show and, much to my satisfaction, were very well received.

Tell us about the best reaction you've had at an art fair.

This past Saturday was my first art show/fair since high school, so I don't have a lot of experience yet. Honestly, I loved all the reactions, so it's hard for me to pinpoint a favorite. I really enjoyed seeing someone look at them and then see their
face light up when they "get it." I also liked hearing repeatedly that they liked the idea because it was different from anything they've seen at shows.

You're been giving one superpower. Tell us about it.

Teleportation. I've developed an addiction to traveling, and while I would do my best to use my power for the good of humanity, it would be used just as much for selfish reasons.
