Curator’s Statement:

I’m a sucker for music-themed tees. I also have a soft spot in my heart for literal translations of common phrases. What do you get when you put the two together? “House Music” is a wonderful example of exactly what I’m talking about! Despite not listening to much house music on a day-to-day basis, I still get much enjoyment from this design. I mean, where else are you going to see a house DJing a live set for the entire neighborhood to hear? It takes this musical genre to a whole new level!

How did you come up with the idea for “House Music”?

I have recently been working on puns as designs in a kind of light-hearted fashion and this is a result of a recent brainstorm, house related designs seem most hilarious to me lately.

Please tell us a little bit about yourself. Who is Randyotter?

I am final year student studying Illustration and I have gained a real passion for tee shirt design which has in turn really increased not only my skills but work rate, and I am in the process of trying to get the best grade I can to make up for 3 years of partying :D.

Do you have a specific subject matter that you especially like to draw?

I love drawing animals all and anything that I find cute, weird or interesting. I sometimes have to make conscious efforts to not draw the same animal over and over, but generally anything happy and fun that makes me smile.

What are your thoughts on house music? What is your favorite music genre?

Although I am a fan of house music I couldn’t name a band or artist as I don’t find it is casual home listening and therefore I only know songs by hearing them when I am out and about. My favorite genre is Punk/rock bands which probably seem a bit cheesy by now such as Sum 41 and Blink 182.

Since many of your illustrations feature animals, do you have any pets?

When I was younger I had loads of pets. The list would include dogs, cats, chickens, budgies, quails, finches, fish, rabbits, guinea pigs and errmm I think that’s it :D
