The Weekly Submission Review

Posted by dunz0 on October 6 2009

We’d like to welcome Bo, aka dunz0, to the Tilteed blog where she’ll be writing a regular column reviewing some of the great submissions that we receive. A regular t-shirt wearer, Bo knows tees and writes regularly over at her own t-shirt review blog: Loving This Tee. You can find Bo’s submission reviews here weekly, and if you can’t get enough t-shirts, you can also follow her on Twitter.

Hello, Tilteed fans! This is the first of my weekly submission reviews where I will be discussing four of my favorite active designs on the site. The first two are submissions that have been posted within the past three weeks, while the last two are older favorites that need your continued support in order to get printed. In these reviews, some of the designs that will be discussed in the latter portion may be amazing unprinted designs that are nearing the end of their voting period.

With that said, if you see a design that you missed and like it, please head over to the Tilteed voting section to give them some love while you’re rating the latest submissions!

FRESH PICKS

“Stop or My Whale Will Shoot” by jublin

This is the oddest design that I’ve encountered in quite some time, but I have to say that I absolutely adore it. In this piece, a bank robber has just been stopped by an armed policeman. What’s unique about these two individuals is that their heads are non-human and aren’t just whale heads, but almost entire whale bodies! The characters’ anatomies make no sense, but that’s the beauty of this design. It’s fun and it’s random. What makes me smile, especially, is the nonexistence of the police whale’s facial expressions. The title is also perfect and definitely adds to the randomness of the concept!

“Shaving!” by MattGirouard

Who knew that you could turn a daily act of grooming (for most men, at least) into a neat illustration, while still staying true to life? MattGirouard has taken the ordinary act of shaving and transformed it into something that I actually wouldn’t mind wearing on a t-shirt. Using a blue and pink palette, the artist has turned an everyday scene into a refreshing visual. What I enjoy about this piece is the teenager’s struggle with the razor. He’s really having a tough time! Could it be based on a true story? I would prefer that MattGirouard’s signature weren’t in the design, as with any other tee illustration, but I still love it nonetheless.

OLDER FAVORITES

“The Replacement” by jeffer

I have been following this hilarious piece on Tilteed for about a month now. This group of scouts has found a new leader after having lost its original one. Little do they know that their new leader is actually the cause for this mysterious disappearance! From his expressions, it looks like the bear only wanted to get food and is not enjoying what he got himself into. He could easily run away into the forest, but I’m guessing that he’ll tough it out in order to keep his belly satiated for a couple more days. If he’s lucky, he’ll successfully trick the children into following him around the woods for weeks. He is the expert forest dweller, after all!

“All Monsters are the Same” by smoking

While monsters may appear to be nice and friendly on the surface, their minds are set on one thing. You’ve probably heard of the saying, “A way to a man’s heart is through his stomach.” Well, this design shows that monsters also live by this phrase! I’m not quite sure what its monster’s favorite foods are, but I’m willing to bet that it would rather eat you than any meal that you take the time to prepare. I could be wrong, though. It may just want heaps of cookies or a nice sirloin steak to be content.
